Quảng Ninh Boosts Summer Tourism to Attract International Visitors

The northern coastal province of Quảng Ninh, home to the world-renowned Hạ Long Bay, has set its sights on a strong tourism rebound in summer 2025, employing a range of measures aimed at attracting both domestic and international visitors.

The provincial government has committed to further increasing these figures through a robust tourism strategy focused on diversifying services, enhancing infrastructure, and expanding the region’s appeal to international cruise travelers.

One of the key focus areas for Quảng Ninh’s tourism development is the growth of cruise tourism. The province has long been a popular stop for cruise ships, but with the opening of new routes and the expansion of cruise-related services, Quảng Ninh aims to become an even more prominent destination for international cruise passengers. Authorities are working to enhance the port facilities in Bái Tử Long Bay, Hạ Long Bay, and other coastal destinations to accommodate larger ships and more frequent arrivals.

This effort is part of a broader strategy to diversify tourism offerings, including the creation of new tourist routes such as the direct Lan Hạ Bay-Hạ Long Bay connection. This new route will link Hải Phòng, a neighboring city, to Hạ Long Bay, maximizing the tourism potential of Vietnam’s first inter-provincial heritage site, the Hạ Long Bay–Cát Bà Archipelago. This ambitious initiative aims to integrate sea and island tourism more effectively, while also promoting the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site as an internationally recognized travel destination.

In line with its efforts to expand the tourism sector, Quảng Ninh has already seen success with cultural and tourism events. In May 2025, the province hosted several high-profile events, including the iconic Hạ Long Carnival during the April 30 – May 1 holiday and the ceremonial procession of the Buddha’s sacred relics to the Trúc Lâm Yên Tử Monastery. These events attracted more than 1.5 million visitors, showcasing the region’s cultural heritage and drawing attention from both domestic and international tourists.

The Hạ Long Carnival, a vibrant celebration featuring parades, live performances, and cultural exhibitions, is expected to become a cornerstone of Quảng Ninh’s tourism calendar, contributing significantly to the province’s tourism visibility.

The goal is to create a more sustainable and diverse tourism infrastructure that will attract visitors year-round, not just during peak seasons. The growth of new eco-tourism projects and the expansion of transportation links will help support the development of new markets while protecting the region’s natural resources.

In addition to expanding destinations and routes, Quảng Ninh is investing heavily in tourism-related infrastructure, including transportation systems, accommodation facilities, and tourism services. The region is also focusing on the development of human resources, providing training for hospitality workers, tour guides, and other tourism professionals. This is essential for ensuring that the region can continue to meet the growing demand for high-quality service and sustainable tourism practices.

The province has also invested in the modernization of key tourism facilities, such as hotels, resorts, and tourist attractions, to cater to the increasing number of visitors. This modernization is expected to position Quảng Ninh as one of the leading tourism destinations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

As Quảng Ninh continues to grow as a regional tourism hub, the combination of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure will make it one of the most sought-after destinations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. The province’s efforts to attract international visitors through strategic partnerships, new routes, and unique experiences are already showing positive results.

With the launch of new tourism events, expanded cruise tourism services, and the development of high-quality sea and island tourism products, Quảng Ninh is well on its way to achieving its goal of becoming a global tourism destination by 2045. As the region continues to invest in its tourism infrastructure and human resources, it remains poised for long-term growth and success in the competitive global tourism market.
