Our guide Hirani was very knowledgeable & helpful for the whole day (which is long). The day was very interesting, we would not have seen the same places had we be driving ourselves. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Audrey & Barrie Kent
This trip is one we have wanted to experience for a long time. From the moment you stepped on the bus until you were delivered back at your hotel it was a fun packed day. Our tour guide spoke passionately about the history of the places that we were visiting and passing though on the 450km round trip. Our first stop was Sunbury Coffee for a tasty morning tea of scones with cream and their own papaya jam. Papaya grown on their plantation. I am not a papaya loving person but really enjoyed the jam. Next it was onto Chillagoe and the Caves. We met up with our Park ranger Greg for our tour of the Royal Arch Caves. We were each given a torch as these caves are the only ones with no lights. There are handrails and cement paths most of the way along our tour. Greg was informative and entertaining. There are a couple of spots where you have to duck low to get through. After the tour we then drove onto Balancing Rock. A little bit of a climb up to the rock but well worth the exercise. Stopped at the old disused Smelters on the way back to Chillagoe and lunch. It was a tasty pub lunch at the Post Office Pub in Chillagoe. Next was a stop to Granite Gorge and to meet the little rock wallabies. You are welcome to purchase a bag of food to feed them. Then it is back on board for the journey back to our accommodation. This tour is one way to see a small part of the Outback. You sit back and enjoy the scenery and listen to the entertaining and informative commentary.
Hirani K was our Tour guide & driver. How good is she !! Absolutely loved our tour with her and lot of stories to share. Loved the Skybury cafe as part of the tour. We are glad we took this tour with Billy Tea and not ventured on our own. 450kms would have been a long tiring drive, but we just got driven around and enjoyed the tour.
This tour was marked down since the beginning of the year as something I wanted to see, and I heard very good reviews across a wide variety of social media sites. Our guide Hirani provided very informative information about the regions culture, history, geology and biodiversity. Highlights of the day was an amazing morning tea at Skybury Coffee Plantation, especially scones, cream and red papaya jam. The ranger guided tour of Royal Arch Cave by Ashley who did an amazing job keeping us safe, beautiful Fish and Chips for lunch at the Post Office Hotel. Seeing the Wallabies at Granite George capped off an amazing experience wonderfully facilitated by Hirani. This has been the highlight of my trip to Cairns so far.
Very enjoyable day out, Mark our driver was very knowledgeable and friendly. Happy to answer all our questions. Delicious MT at Skybury Coffee with scones andPapaya Jam. Interesting history at Chillagoe Copper Smelter and surrounding natural areas. Caves were a cool refreshing change from the heat of the day with some interesting formations pointed out by Ashley our helpful guide. Definitely worth the long day!
Todays tour was one that we'd looked forward to for a long time! Our Billy Tea guide Mark, picked us up nice and early, and we were off! Highlights of the day included a delicious morning tea at Skybury Coffee, a ranger guided tour of Royal Arch Cave a photo opportunity at Balancing Rock, lunch at the historic Post Office Hotel, and to cap it all off, the chance to hand feed the Mareeba Rock Wallabies at Granite Gorge. It really gave an excellent ending to our couple of days in Cairns!!!
Our guide Hirani was very informative and she made the long journey to the caves pass quickly with her entertaining and funny stories. We had many stops along the way to break up the long journey. The caves were amazing and definitely the highlight of the day trip. However after spending such a long time driving there I was disappointed we only got one hour to explore a portion of only one of the three caves in the area. I would have happily missed all the other activities to spend more time at the caves. For those wishing to explore all three caves, this is not the tour for you. Otherwise most of the activities included were enjoyable especially feeding the rock wallabies at Granite Gorge.
What a fantastic day we had, so much to see and explore, highly recommend, although would have liked more time to explore another cave so would suggest staying overnight in the Gillago area. Great driver, informative nothing too much trouble.
